CAMPS
Camp Shalom
Camp Shalom offers a very special opportunity for multiply handicapped and developmentally delayed children and young adults to take part in a wonderful camping experience. Under the supervision of professional staff, campers participate in activities that include physical and aquatics instruction, music and art therapy, weekly group sessions of therapeutic riding/horsemanship, and special events. The counselor/camper ratio is one-to-one. Family activities and field trips are additions to the program. Snack is served daily. An optional lunch hour and transportation may be arranged on a limited basis for an additional fee. The supplemental services of physical, occupational, and speech therapies are available on site.
Haverim Vacation Camps During school vacations, kids in grades kindergarten through five can have a terrific time at the YJCC. Each day, participate in a special program such as a magic show, bowling, or swim. Lunch and games are part of the fun.
Summer Camps
Make friends, make memories at the fabulous day camp programs for children and teens at the YJCC.
Camps include:
• Nursery school children will delight in KinderCamp, a summer program designed especially for them. A variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including arts & crafts, theme weeks, music, water activities, gym and more make this a great experience for young children.
• Fabulous Fives KidsCamp for children entering kindergarten give children a fun-filled summer with indoor and outdoor age appropriate activities, including arts & crafts, special camp performances, games, music, Karate, instructional swim, and gym.
• Super Kids KidsCamp for children entering grades 1 through 5 is a traditional day camp experience in the YJCC’s air-conditioned facility enhanced with outdoor activities. The program includes arts & crafts, music and drama, Karate, nature and science, instructional and recreational swim, sports, and more. It’s the perfect summer for the kid who loves everything!
• Basketball Camp is back. The morning is geared toward detailed instruction on all aspects of the game. On Mondays, all players will be separated into teams for the week. Every day after lunch they'll use their new skills in full court basketball games. Lunch is provided daily.
• Theater Camp has two programs. Super-Pretend for children entering grades 1 through 3 revolves around role-playing and make-believe. Children will participate in warm-up exercises with older campers in the morning. In the afternoon, campers will read a story, fable or myth and enter into the world of the story with costumes, props, makeup, music, and movement. The Actor’s Workshop for children in grades 4 through 12 give older children to experience all aspects of theater. The program includes classes on acting, dance, and voice. Campers work on scenes, monologues, songs, and routines. Each Wednesday, the camp travels to New York City to see a Broadway matinee! Both camps culminate each 3 week session with a showcase of their work.
• Venture to exciting destinations with Teen Travel Camp. Campers entering grades 6 – 9 will travel daily to amusement parks, sporting events, performances, and fantastic area attractions. For an added thrill, during each 3-week session, campers will take one overnight and one three-night trip out of the area. Through Project Open Hearts, Open Homes, campers experience a unique international dimension and personal connection to Israel.
• This full 8-week Counselor-in-Training Program is designed to give teens entering 10th grade hands-on experience working with children of all ages and abilities. C.I.T.'s enjoy camper benefits, too, participating in Teen Travel camp for six full days. Preference for employment during the year will be given to successful C.I.T.'s.
