PARENT AND CHILD CLASSES
Polliwogs - Ages 6-18 mos. Fun for babies with their parents. You and your child will learn to be safe and have fun in the water by learning special holding techniques, cues, games, songs and skill repetition. Emphasis is based on water exploration to help build your child's confidence in the pool. All classes are held in the Kiddie Pool.
Tadpole I - Ages 18 mos.-3 yrs Emphasis is again based on water exploration. Watch your child become more independent as they learn skills such as kicking, floating, arm movement, bubble blowing and full body submersion. All classes are held in the Kiddie Pool.
Tadpole II & Tadpole III Ages 18 mos.-2 yrs. & 2-3 yrs.
Emphasis is put on motor skills, coordination, independence and safety skills and knowledge. Underwater swimming and exploration are the key to these classes. Watch as your child learns to participate as a group and interact with other children. All classes are held in the Kiddie Pool.
NURSERY AGE CLASSES (AGES 3-5 YRS)
Dogfish The perfect beginning for children with little or no water experience or who have fear of getting wet. Water safety and exploration is taught through the use of learning games and repetition. All classes are held in the Kiddie Pool.
Reef For children who are comfortable in the water, but who do not yet know how to swim on their own. Skills are identical to those taught in the Dogfish Level, however independence is stressed. All classes are held in the Kiddie Pool.
Angel Watch as your child takes the skills learned in the prior two levels and uses them to leave the Kiddie Pool and begin to swim independently in the Main Pool. Classes are split between the Kiddie Pool and Main Pool, with the last 2 classes held strictly in the Main Pool.
Mako The main emphasis of class is on deep water exploration and comfort. Practice and refinement of skills already learned is also stressed.
Lemon Focus will be placed on skills that have already been introduced. Designed to promote endurance and develop good water habits and skills practice.
CHILDREN'S CLASSES (AGES 6 & OVER) All classes held in main pool
Zebra The perfect beginning for children with little or no water experience, or who have a fear of getting wet. Water safety and exploration is taught in a fun and safe environment that will get even the most frightened child excited about swimming.
Sandtiger For children who are comfortable in the water, but who do not yet know how to swim on their own. Skills are identical to those taught in the Zebra Level, however independence is stressed.
Bull Watch as your child becomes increasingly independent. Deep water exploration and comfort is introduced along with backstroke.
Blue Main emphasis of class is on deep water exploration and comfort. Practice and refinement of skills already learned is also stressed.
Nurse Focus will be placed on skills that have already been introduced. Designed to promote endurance and develop good water habits and skills practice.
ADVANCED LEVEL CLASSES (AGES 5 & OVER) Successful completion of Lemon or Nurse Level class required. All classes held in main pool
Blunt Nose Watch as your child continues to refine their front crawl and backstroke skills, as well as learn elementary backstroke. Instructors begin to exit the water as participants become increasingly independent.
Thresher Watch as your child dives in and swims all by themselves! Threshers receive out of the water instruction for skill refinement of freestyle, backstroke and elementary backstroke, but have hands-on skill training as breaststroke is introduced.
Hammer Head Focuses on skill proficiency, refining basic swimming skills, review and practice of learned skills and an introduction to butterfly. This is the first of three preparation courses for anyone interested in joining our competitive swimming program.
Tiger Geared toward children who want to take swimming to the next level, but fun for those who just want to have fun. Competitive racing starts and turns are introduced, stroke technique is refined and endurance is built through practice and repetition.
Great White The last step before joining competition. Endurance, stroke technique, racing starts and turns are all emphasized in an action-packed, fun-filled class that is sure to prepare your child for the next step. ..The Bergen Sharks Competitive Swim Team!

The First Class
Please prepare your child to enter the pool. Children should be dressed in swim attire and must shower prior to entering the pool deck area. Before class begins, the instructors will introduce themselves and review the roster of participants. Your child will follow the instructor to the teaching site.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch the first class only, provided they remove their street shoes, and stand or sit in the designated areas. Parents are not permitted to remain on the pool deck in subsequent classes. Your child’s instructor will be available after class to discuss your child’s growth, or you can make arrangements to speak with him or her at another time.
Missed Classes/Make-Up Policy See Aquatic Director or Pool Manager.
If you or your child expects to miss the majority of scheduled classes, contact the Aquatics Director immediately as refunds cannot be granted after the 2nd class. |
