About Our Staff.  Our stuff consists of highly trained, certified, experienced and professional lifeguards, swimming instructors, coaches and directors. Our staff takes pride in the programs, quality and cleanliness of our fantastic facility. No matter which program you or your child is involved in, you can be assured that you are receiving excellent and appropriate instruction and supervision. There is always at least one lifeguard on duty to ensure that you, your family and your guests are safe and that the pool area is clean and organized. Lifeguards can answer your questions regarding policies and schedules.

Little Sharks Swim School
Here at the YJCC we strive to create and maintain a high energy, highly educational, highly successful learn-to-swim program, called the Little Sharks Swim School. This program combines years of experience and knowledge to create the most authentic, fun and exciting program around. Not only will this program teach your child how to swim, but how to be safe in and around the pool. Each class builds on the skills taught and learned in the level before, and with a total of 18 different levels, you can be sure that your child will be comfortable in our program for years to come. We offer small class sizes, with a 4:1 swimmer: instructor ratio, allowing our highly trained staff to create unique programs for each class.

About Our Pools
The Main Pool is 6 lane, 25 yard (75’) competitive-style pool. The depth ranges from 3’6 to 5’6”. Diving is only permitted for instructional and competitive purposes and must be supervised by a YJCC swim instructor or coach. The water temperature is maintained at a cool and relaxing 82-83 degrees. Keep the following in mind when you are lap swimming: 1 mile = 72 lengths/36 laps, 3/4 mile = 54 lengths/27 laps, 1/2 mile = 36 lengths/18 laps and 1/4 mile = 18 lengths/9 laps.

The Kiddie Pool is a 400 square foot pool that ranges in depth from 1'6" to 2'6". The water temperature is maintained at 90-90 degrees, making it excellent pool for children 6 years and younger who may get too cold in the main pool. When child group swim lessons are being conducted, the kiddie pool is closed for general use.

Proper supervision is more than the lifeguards responsibility: Children 6 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older) who is in the water with them at all times. Children 9 years of age allowed to be in the kiddie pool without an adult, but must be accompanied by an adult who is the water when in the main pool. ALL children 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult who is in the pool area at all times.

The lifeguards have final say on all rules and regulations, until clarified or overruled by an Aquatics Supervisor.

About Our rules and Regulations
For everyone’s health and safety, and in order to maintain the cleanliness of the pools and desk area, please remember the following when entering the Aquatics facility.

All persons must take a soap shower before entering either the Main Pool or the Kiddie Pool. Why? New Jersey State Health Department codes require the enforcement of this regulation in ALL public and private swimming facilities in an effort to minimize the bacteriological levels and optimize our method of disinfecting and sanitizing the pools.

No street shoes, sneakers or strollers are permitted on the pool desk. Why? Dirt and bacteria are tracked onto the pool deck, creating an unsanitary environment for swimmers to walk around barefoot.

Disposable diapers are not permitted in either pool. Children who are not yet toilet trained must wear swim diapers underneath their swimsuits and are not permitted in the Main Pool. Why? Disposable diapers disintegrate when they become saturated with water. They then become sucked into the filter system and vacuum, clogging them and causing costly damage. When an accident occurs it is necessary to close the pool in order to properly clean it.

Bandages, band-aids and medicated patches may not be worn in either pool. Why? Once wet, these coverings fall off and clog filters and vacuum. They are also unsanitary once used and could potentially be infectious. Any person with open cuts, wounds or blisters are not permitted to use either pool.

Inflatable toys, rafts, swimmies, tubes, etc. are not permitted in either pool. Why? Children who depend on these devices are at risk for serious injury if the device fails, or the child gets out and goes underwater. Kick boards, barbells, noodles, etc. are only to be used in their intended manner and are NOT lifesaving devices. If being used improperly, the lifeguard will inform you and remove them from the pool.

Anyone with hair shoulder-length or longer when wet is required to wear a swimming cap. Why? When long hair falls out in=t becomes caught in our filter system and vacuum, clogging them and causing costly damage.
